Vanessa Johnson, MD, FAAD

Vanessa Johnson, MD, FAAD is the Medical Director of ShadeTree Dermatology. She is a board-certified dermatologist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Dr. Johnson was born and raised in Melbourne, FL, and graduated cum laude from Vanderbilt University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Neuroscience. She completed her undergraduate studies with High Honors for her research in brain plasticity. She continued her education at Vanderbilt Medical School, where she received her Doctor of Medicine, and spent time volunteering at Mother Teresa’s Home for the Dying in Calcutta, India, as well as coordinating the annual service trip to Nicaragua for Vanderbilt medical students. Dr. Johnson went on to complete her residency in dermatology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she served as Chief Resident and was awarded the House Staff Clinical Teaching Award for her leadership in clinical education. Dr. Johnson has research experience in the epidemiology of skin disease, cutaneous oncology, medical education, and global health.

Her clinical interests include medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.

In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, swing dancing and home improvement projects with her husband, and soaking up time with her three children.
