At ShadeTree Dermatology in Cocoa Beach and Rockledge, Florida, you are never in the dark about options to treat thinning hair and baldness. Hair restoration services start by first putting a spotlight on the root cause of your thin strands and bald patches. Factors that can be controlled and those that are out of your control — from genetics to certain hairstyles and nutritional deficiencies — can all be to blame for hair loss. Depending on what is uncovered by our Board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Vanessa Johnson, one or a combination of the following four interventions may be recommended to bring your hair back to its former glory.
Dr. Johnson has the knowledge and experience to effectively diagnose and treat hair loss and recommend medications that work. These medications are designed to prevent further thinning, shedding, and/or encourage regrowth. Some medications may require a prescription and are only available at your doctor’s office. They may include easy-to-use topical products, such as medicated shampoos. We account for the nature or cause of your hair loss when prescribing certain medications and your overall health, age, and expected results. Some of these medications generally work by targeting specific hormones and enzymes associated with the hair growth cycle.
Treatments at our offices are powerful but do not carry the risks that accompany surgical interventions (such as hair transplants). The idea behind some of these therapies is to boost blood flow, which stimulates the follicles to regrow hair and encourages nutrients to nourish the treated cells of the scalp.
Diagnostic services play a very important role in the treatment process. During your evaluation, we may perform bloodwork that reveals deficiencies in certain vitamins and minerals. These nutritional shortfalls can contribute to a change in your hair’s thickness and overall quality; notably, you may lack sufficient biotin, iron, and zinc. To supplement what you may already be consuming as whole foods, Dr. Johnson and the ShadeTree Dermatology team can recommend the right products to resolve the deficiency without creating new problems (such as taking too much iron, which can be dangerous). You can trust our guidance, as ShadeTree Dermatology specializes in treating and managing skin, hair, and nail conditions.
Your day-to-day habits and behaviors can greatly impact the thickness and overall appearance of your hair. We can suggest haircare and styling modifications to promote healthy locks as needed. It’s best to avoid harsh hairstyles and products that can pull at the hair and may even damage the hair follicles permanently. Another way to think of these modifications is that many aspects of our lifestyles promote overall health and hair health. So, things like keeping your stress in check can do good for your hair and the rest of your body.
Of course, hair loss may also be caused by hormonal challenges, thyroid disorders, lupus, and other autoimmune conditions, which require specific and varied treatments. To start the process of reclaiming your hair and confidence, schedule a consultation at ShadeTree Dermatology by calling our offices in Cocoa Beach and Rockledge, FL, today at (321) 200-0346.
