At ShadeTree Dermatology, our clinic is designed to offer a wide array of general and cosmetic dermatology solutions for men and women. Our team of professionals works alongside patients in and around the area struggling with concerns like the unwanted signs of aging. It is perfectly normal for the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and folds to impact one’s appearance after age thirty. Thankfully, many aesthetic services, such as Botox, are available to address these issues. Botox is a botulinum toxin injection designed to address dynamic wrinkles and face folds. Let’s look at how Dr. Vanessa Johnson and her team can help combat aging skin using this and other cosmetic injectables at her office.
Botulinum toxin injections are usually used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause them. They can also be used for medical purposes, such as treating migraines, excessive sweating, muscle spasms, and certain neurological conditions.
The injections work by blocking the signals from nerves to the muscles. This prevents the targeted muscles from contracting, which helps to smooth out the skin texture while reducing wrinkles. When used for medical conditions, the relaxation of muscles reduces associated discomfort or symptoms.
Yes! When these treatments are performed by qualified and experienced professionals, botulinum toxin injections are considered safe. However, as with any medical treatment, there might be side effects, usually mild and temporary, such as mild redness, swelling, or slight bruising at the injection site.
Depending on the individual and the area treated, the effects usually last between three and six months. Over time, the muscle function will gradually return, and the treatment can be repeated if needed.
Most people report only minor discomfort during the procedure. The needles are very fine, and many practitioners use topical numbing creams or ice to minimize discomfort during the injections.
Botulinum toxin injections require little to no downtime. You can usually return to your regular activities immediately after the treatment. However, it’s best to avoid rubbing the treated area, heavy exercise, or lying down for a few hours after the procedure.
Botulinum toxin injections are not usually recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding individuals, those with certain neuromuscular conditions, or anyone allergic to the injection ingredients. Discussing your medical history and concerns with your provider before undergoing treatment is important.
