Don’t let past acne breakouts haunt you! FAQs about effective treatment of acne scars
One of the heartbreaking truths about acne is that its effects can linger long after your most recent breakout. This common condition can leave many individuals emotionally and physically scarred. Fortunately, there is help from a trusted, compassionate team at the offices of ShadeTree Dermatology in Cocoa Beach – Rockledge, Florida. Led by our talented board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Vanessa Johnson, our team customizes acne scar treatment to your needs. So, you can say goodbye to the painful reminders of acne once and for all.
Why did my acne scar?
Yes, it’s true that not everyone with past acne develops scars. But it’s estimated that three out of every ten individuals with severe pimples or cystic acne will develop some scars. The skin may become damaged as your body produces collagen during the healing process. The collagen can result in uneven surfaces or highly visible scarring that stick out from the surrounding skin.
Are there different types of acne scars?
Certainly! Just as acne takes on many different forms, the same is true of acne-related scarring. It is important for us to understand the type of scar present before making appropriate recommendations for treatment. Notably, some scarring may appear as very deep pits, indentations, or troughs in the skin. Conversely, acne scars can be raised nodules or keloids that are thicker than the surrounding skin and stick out on the skin’s surface.
Can my scar look better over time?
It is possible for the appearance of some acne scars to look less noticeable. But this is not common, and they often do not fully fade. With professional and tailored treatment, Dr. Johnson and our team dramatically improve the appearance of your scars. The resulting transformations that we have supported are way more than skin deep—our patients’ pride in themselves is restored, and their self-confidence and outlook on life are renewed.
How do you make acne scars fade?
Dr. Johnson accounts for your skin type, the nature of the scar, the number of scars, and other factors when developing treatment plans. As appropriate, she may recommend resurfacing the area with laser systems. Light energy from the laser is precisely delivered to remove damaged skin cells in the scarred area. The heat generated also helps to support the production of new collagen, which can help to make depressed scars look smoother and less noticeable. Or, Dr. Johnson may recommend resurfacing with chemical peels and/or dermal fillers to “fill in” depressed scars. For raised scars, treatment may range from medications to surgically removing or excising large keloids.
